Upon weeks of research looking for a new floor, Dallas Flooring Wearhouse in Allen looked like the most promising store to walk in to and browse, based on their amazing online reviews and article in Top Pick Reports.Initially when we went to the store, my significant other and I thought we wanted to go with interlocking vinyl planks for a DIY job we could do ourselves. Because we were on a budget, we thought it would be the route to go. However, we were then greeted by the awesome Jules at S&H Flooring. She listened to our ideas and how we wanted to replace 15yr old carpet with the vinyl and try to install ourselves. She then explained to us on the fact that we had 225 sq.ft of carpet that needed to be ripped up, tile needing to be destroyed in the foyer, and sub-floor that most likely needing to be leveled in an older home, our time and effort would be saved tremendously by letting her team tackle the job.Jules then introduced us to laminate flooring which would be more cost friendly and efficient for what our home needed rather than the vinyl. The samples she showed us were awesome! We couldn't believe the "real hard-wood" look of the Bella-Terra series. We were undecided between a darker richer laminate, or lighter hickory laminate-both in Bella-Terra series. Everyone at S&H in Allen was so helpful! Ben let us know we were able to check out samples overnight and see them in our own homes natural lighting. After we had the Bella-Terra "Scala" in Rustic Hickory at home in our lighting we JUST knew it was the one! The next day we walked into the store, sat down with Jules and went over the details of installation. She was very informative of the process, cost, and how the installers would do the job. She let us know getting small items out of the way and as much furniture as possible would help the team get started and done faster. However she said they would help with some heavy items if needed. We wrote a check (half up front) to save a credit card charge, and the installers were to come out the following Monday!Come Monday morning at around 11:00am we met Lucio and Alex, our laminate installation experts! We had cleared all of our furniture out of the living room, formal dining and master bedroom-Save for our entertainment center and bed which the guys helped us with. Then the ripping of our awful carpet commenced. Lucio and Alex got to work right away on tearing it up, rolling it outside, removing the tack strips, and preparing our subfloor. We had some leveling and cracks that needed work and the Guys did excellent at taking their time making sure the foundation was solid and prepped to lay our beautiful laminate! Day 2: Lucio and Alex show up around 9:00am ready to start laying the laminate! We were amazed once they laid down the rubber pad and began plank after plank how quickly our floor was coming together! Most of Day 2 was the laminate being laid down and it looked WONDERFUL!Day 3: Some finishing touches were needed such as thresholds and shoe around the crown molding on day 3. We laid our own linoleum tiles in our laundry room during the process and went to Home Depot for our own purposes and realized we wanted to have a thinner shoe (than quarter round) everywhere the new floors were laid. We consulted with S&H, Jules, and Lucio and they were very flexible with us and giving the customer what they wanted! We went to Home Depot and bought the thinner shoe materials and were reimbursed for the quarter round. Lucio and Alex did a wonderful job. We are still in awe everytime we look at the fine detailed work they did. Lucio even put the shoe in our laundry room for us which was NOT required at all in the job! I would recommend S&H Flooring to anyone! The quality and job performance are outstanding! -Craig and Paigeread more

Ben was extremely helpful in explaining our carpet options, why some carpets cost more than others, wearability, etc. He helped us through the whole process with the knowledge we needed to make the right choice for us. Once we identified what we were looking for, he steered us away from the expensive stuff we were looking at and to some less expensive options. The carpet was in and ready to install in less than a week. The installers came and were very courteous. They were very careful with our furniture and did an overall great job. Peggy Ginsberg, S&H Flooring, was great to work with. She was fun, personable, and worked diligently with us through out the entire process. When we had to postpone everything due to an unforeseen speed bump on the road of life, she was more than understanding. About a year later, we reconnected with Peggy, got the remodel of our master bedroom/bath going. Her installers did a great job and were very professional, even working late into the evening if they had to. Our remodel turned out fabulous. We are very pleased with the more

Ben is awesome! He was professional and attentive to my needs as the customer. The carpet installers however, were not prepared to actually install the carpet for the space that they measured beforehand. I had to take off work an additional day because of their contractors being unprepared. Allen is a city in Collin County, Texas, a northern suburb of Dallas. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city had a total population of 84,246.
The Allen area was previously home to the Caddo, Comanche, and other indigenous peoples. The first immigrants from the United States and Europe arrived in the early 1840s.[7] The town was established by the Houston and Central Texas Railroad and named in 1872 for Ebenezer Allen, a state politician and railroad promoter.[8] The railroad allowed sale of crops across the country before they rotted, causing a shift from the previous cattle-based agriculture.[9] On February 22, 1878,[7] a gang led by Sam Bass committed in Allen what is said to be Texas’s first train robbery.[8]
From 1908 through 1948, Allen was a stop along the Texas Traction Company’s interurban line from Denison to Dallas. Allen was a small town of a few hundred residents when it was incorporated in 1953. Since this time, it has grown dramatically due to the construction of U.S. Route 75, the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, and the development of nearby Dallas and Plano.[7][8]
According to the City of Allen, the city has a total area of 27.1 square miles (70 km2). None of the area is covered with water except the small ponds scattered throughout the city.

Allen is part of the humid subtropical region, with hot dry summers and mild cold and rainy winters.

Hispanic or Latino of any race were 16.2% of the population.

There were 14,205 households out of which 55.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 74.6% were married couples living together, 7.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 15.2% were non-families. 11.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 1.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.07 and the average family size was 3.35.

The Allen Independent School District has 18 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 1 freshman center, 1 alternative education center, and 1 high school (Allen High School). Allen ISD serves almost all of Allen.

Small portions of the Allen city limits extend into Lovejoy, McKinney, and Plano ISDs. Engineered Hardwood Flooring – The Advantages

What exactly is engineered hardwood flooring? It isn’t exactly a very commonly used material so it is understandable that a few people are not well aware of what it is. Basically, this flooring product is comprised of layer upon layer of laminated material. It’s base would be made out of plywood and topped with a veneer of hardwood which is then pre-finished with a urethane type seal thus making it very durable. It comes in strips which are then packaged in different boxes. Each of these strips would also have a tongue-and-groove located on each side so that it would lock with other strips firmly in place. This feature makes it easier to install and remove.

Besides that, what are the other advantages that a person can expect when it comes to using this type of flooring? Below you’ll find a quick overview. Read and familiarize yourself with it before making a decision.

  1. This type of hardwood flooring is actually a lot more affordable compared to a real one. In fact, the price is competitive enough that it is roughly about that of getting quality wall to wall carpeting. This is one of the major reasons as to why many individuals, as well as decorators, opt to use it.
  2. Ease of installation. Of course, this is also another important factor as there is some cost tied to installing new flooring. If you can do it yourself without worrying about messing up then that would be for the best. You’d be glad to know that engineered flooring comes pre-finished so all you really need to do is follow the simple process of putting things together. Given a day or two, you should be able to successful finishing flooring your home.
  3. Limited maintenance. Of course, if you’re always on the go then you would need something that’s low maintenance since you wouldn’t have enough time to really bother much with it. However, much like your average floor, this would still require a certain level of cleaning. The great thing about it would be the fact that clean up is a breeze. You need not spend so much time on it. Something simple like sweeping is often enough to do the job. Wax is certainly a no-no and mopping isn’t necessary.

So there you have it, just a few of the advantages that comes with using this type of wood flooring alternative.

Berber and Plush Carpeting

When it comes to choosing the right carpet for yourself, there are a few factors that you might want to consider before deciding on one. Of course, comfort is one of the major factors. The carpeting needs to feel good under one’s feet and should also be easy to clean. After all, maintenance is imperative to keeping a carpet looking good. Now, with that said, let’s take a closer look at two of the most popular choices for residential flooring. These would be berber carpeting, frieze carpeting and plush carpeting.

What’s the difference?

Berber Carpet – This variety is well known for its rich appearance and is actually one of the most popular choices for many homeowners. In terms of fiber tufts, they tend to be looped and perfectly aligned thus lending the carpet itself an even and harmonious texture. You can, of course, choose between smaller loops and larger ones depending on your preferences and needs. There’s a particular “cut” which is commonly referred to as “California Berber” which has its loops cuts. This type of berber carpeting is also more resistant to wear and tear. So if you’re expecting quite a bit of foot traffic in the area you’re putting the carpet in then you might want to consider using that particular type of berber cut.

Plush Carpet – This type of carpet is among the most commonly sold mostly due to the fact that it comes in a wide variety of colors which would easily match any home décor or theme that you might have. The carpet’s surface would be quite flat and even which also allows for easier stain removal and also makes it more durable. There is one minor drawback to this, however, and that would be the fact that foot and vacuum tracks can be easily seen on it. For example, after you vacuum it, the carpet would reveal the marks and footprints that you made. There are variations that would have multicolored tufts which should effectively resist any marks and tracks. Also, plush carpets look wonderful with wood flooring. Quite minimal but still eyecatching.

Lastly, make sure that you can handle the maintenance that would be involved once you do make the purchase. Quite a few people have mistakenly bought carpets for themselves without really thinking about the kind of cleaning that it requires. After all, bacteria can get into the carpet itself and as such, you would want to ensure cleanliness at all times. This way, you can prevent bacteria and lengthen the use of your chosen carpet type. Also, keep in mind that there are stain resistant carpets available out there. Those could also be a good option to look into.
